"Study the past if you would define the future." — Confucius
Upon thinking about the many global conflicts happening throughout the world, I find that one must often look far back in history to begin to understand why. Throughout the work, there are themes and motifs reminiscent of older eras of music such as the Baroque and Renaissance periods, infused with more modern elements, as well as sections that shift from uncertainty to prayer and reflection, culminating into a final exaltation. There are moments of solitude that turn into unity, instances of sorrow that morph into perseverance, and I believe these all encapsulate the complexity and fragility, yet fervent determination in the pursuit of peace.
